The four points which determined the size and location of the aperture are decided by the parameter of pointration+x; pointratio equals to 1-(length of edge/ length of diagonal line); the ratio of the four points on the curve are pointratio+0.1, pointratio+0.2, pointratio+0.2, pointratio+0.15.

This practice was to build a series of quadrilaterals based on four arbitrary splines. The systems are controlling the number of the dividing points and the shapes of the quadrilaterals. The embedded video shows the variation of changing the number from 100 to 30, also the splines.

Reading Response_Terzidis_Algorithmich-Architecture

Algotecture differs from CAD or computer graphics, it is independent from the computers. The way computer was invented is extraordinarily brilliant, which allows infinite possibilities for the designers to explore more intelligent programmatic designing approaches, the question brought up in this article, "who designs?" is a philosophy of origin and development. In the process of using program to conduct design, these is always technical limitation, which dramatically reduce the feasibility of millions' concepts. On the other hand, the potential of algorithm behind the monitor supplies another set of ways to have the designs more sophisticated.

This article has talked that originally the role of computers in architecture was to replicate human endeavors and to take the place of humans in the design process. Later the role shifted to create systems that would be intelligent assistants to designers, relieving them from the need to perform the more trivial tasks and augmenting their decision-making capabilities. Today, the roles of computers vary from drafting and modeling to form-based processing of architectural information. While the future of computers appears to include a variety of possible roles, it is worth exploring these roles in the context provided by the question:" who designs?" If one takes the position that designing is not exclusively a human activity and that ideas exist independently of human beings, then it would be possible to design a computational mechanism which would associate those ideas.

Reading Response 006 - Textile Tectonics_Lars Spuybroek

In this article, Lars discussed the relationship between digital mathinary code and hand craft. The machine has been taught to translate the design intention into a craft, which is a more universal language. With the development of technology, computing design allows the architects to have more rigorous and complex control upon the details, yet the accuracy of translation predetermined the quality of the craft. The architects' design would be influenced by the operation of computer and machine. The computational design works would attempt to have the trait of being code-dependent, this would make the translation easier and more accurate.

The machine has been operated repeatedly in the quite similar methods, an excellent instance talked about in this article is the hand writing of as. Human being's arms have very complex tectonics. The system based on joints, on elements, do not allow for imperfection and breaks, but continuous systems do. The point is to make machine do things differently.

The equal relationship between craft and matter has always been challenged by the designer, who tries to control and impose form on matter but, even acting in good faith and in possession of the right techniques, cannot fully inhabit matter and must assume the position of the mold. If we view the situation in this way, our question becomes how to combine mold and craft in design, at a point when design technique and technology are converging.

Reading_Response_005 - How_do_Simulations_Know?

Computer has been applied into designing process and drawings for a long time. Architects are attempting to get closer to manufacturing in the way of creating detailed drawing as well as better organized design information. Computer simulations are never unconditionally true or false. They must work in social  systems of knowledge that include personal, complementary , and competing ways of  representing and thinking about architecture.

The advantage of CATIA is that it serves as a "place" where many different kinds of knowledges meet, and where the details of construction are often contributed by consultants and fabricators. CATIA brings together knowledge of construction materials from outside collaborators with schematic information about designs.

The expectation and limitation about computer simulation is due to the various possibilities and assumptions. One simulation, many possible realities. Design involves the negotiation of many social groups, each with its own demands on representations of knowledge. Each social relationship puts simulations in tension in different ways.

The rational way to take advantage of computer simulations is to gain the ability of be intuitive to the designs, to have the sensibility to justify the attribute of each scenario.

Project_005 - Frameworks

A dynamic building facade system has been simulated in this project. Each component is consist of 8 panels with two control parameters, the radius (R) and edge length (L); there are 10 splines totally in this systems to control the over curvature of facade form, which is controlled by the radius as well. In each cell, radius and length are set separately as R/20(+0.01in), R/25(+0.01in), R/30(+0.01in), R/35(+0.01in), R/40(+0.01in), R/45(+0.01in), L, L-0.1in, L-0.2in, L-0.3in, L-0.4in, L-0.5in. First animation is about changing L, while second animation is about changing R.

Reading_Response_004 - Fabricating_Arch

The lines of ownership and responsibility has been discussed in this article as the computing technologies have been sophistically developed,  the frequent results is not a less expensive project but an equally expensive through more complex one, and the amount of the designers' time required for troubleshooting is substantial. The updating process is easiest when all parties use a common modeling platform, but this is not always possible.

It is a matter of designers acquiring the necessary knowledge through formal or informal education. It is true that architects typically do not have, nor even want, the skill required to specify means and methods of construction. Education of designers requires some modification to better qualify them for working within such procurement processes. Classic designing education has been focusing more on theories and spatial qualities, and of course the reasons behind that. Students have been applied more possibilities and opportunities to produce more potentials, and necessary collaboration between parties and technologies is substantial.

Summary: Existing contract forms require some modification, to encourage information flow among the parties involved in a project and best realized the advantages of CAD/CAM. Collaboration between architects, engineers, fabricators and contractors must be encouraged, beginning in schools. Software must continue to develop in the direction of more useful functionality, more transparent and require extensive programming skills in obtaining useful results with reasonable effort. New material and fabrication processes, take care of themselves inasmuch as human inventiveness continues to unearth heretofore unimagined materials processes and continue to rediscover and reapply old ones.
